Shaft pillar removal and decline projects for Harmony Gold.
TDS delivered the Bambanani shaft pillar removal, including the clearwater pump station with settling system, and the Tshepong Sub 75 decline including the dirty water cascade pumping system.
The Tshepong project was taken from pre-feasibility through feasibility to execution design.

Scope of Work
Bambanani Shaft Pillar Removal
- 26° decline shaft with a double drum winder
- 6 levels with stations
- Materials car with a special hydraulic lifting arrangement to dock at each station
- Two loading arrangements
- Clearwater pumping: three 1200 kW 6-stage Sulzer pumps with hi-rate settlers and a filter press
- Spillage handling arrangement incorporating two conveyors
- Chairlift system to travel between levels
Tshepong Sub 75 Decline
- Twin decline system at 9°: conveyor and material decline combined with a separate personnel decline with a chairlift
- Decline conveyor: 185 kW, 300 tons per hour, 2 m/s, 690 m at 9°, 1050 mm belt
- Decline single drum winder: 160 kW, 9 tons, 5 m/s
- Dirty water cascade pumping from shaft bottom into the settling system of the current mine
- Two de-gritting systems ahead of the dirty water dams
- Settling and filter press system upgraded with a hi-rate settler and an additional filter press
